"No one is gonna want us." a common rat piped up from next to him. "They only want the rare and high demand pets. We're just the trash on the ground."
The rat scratched at her nose with her paw, making herself comfortable as she began to take a nap from inside her cage. The chicken just watched his a pout on his face, his feathers a little ruffled when his very common tag turned to OMG SO COMMON.
"Good grief- now I'll be deleted for sure." he clucked, dropping the tag quickly and getting ready to rest as well, sleeping through the adoption of his only friend.
He woke up alarmed, seeing that he was the only cage left. The sign above his head went from 87 to Closed, even though he was still in the main room.
"Maybe it's a glitch." the chicken told himself, seeing Tess walk in the room and clucking at her.
"Nick, you left a chicken behind!" she shouted, a man picking up his cage and moving him into the storage room.
He saw valuable pets to be saved for those who were worthy, extras of outcomes others had from a good selection of years, and the unwanted outcasts. "Oh, and we need more birds: we're running low on owls, especially the PPS ones!"
The chicken shed a tear as the broad daylight quickly vanished and his chance to find a forever home was gone.
