I gazed upon the signs of the pet stores, debating which one to go into first. Soon, I found my hand turning the knob on the "Dogs + Wolves" store. It was my first time adopting and I was excited. Just across the street, people were running in and out of the pound. I took no notice of the huge crowds of people storming the place.
I soon spotted a litter of small puppies, huddled together, sleeping, with blankets draped over their hinds. I gazed closer, and one of the puppies opened a small, beady eye, studying me. It got up with all it's might and walked over, licking the cage bars in an attempt to get me.
The other puppies hadn't noticed it's sibling's movements and continued to sleep. I could get the whole litter, but then again, this one seemed more happy to see me.
"This one, please." I pointed to the happy puppy, still licking the metal bars. The shop keeper nodded and carefully lifted him out, and handed him to me. I soon thanked him and went on my way. "I shall call you Night." I held the light puppy in my arms, and kissed his nose. He licked mine back.
